As part of the ground-breaking Creative learning through the arts programme, Arts Council of Wales in partnership with Welsh Government are delighted to release further details of a new and exciting opportunity for schools.
Cynefin: Black, Asian and minority ethnic Wales will empower a network of schools to devise and deliver innovative and creative projects. Teachers and learners in Wales will have the opportunity to:
- Explore the history and development of Wales as a multicultural society
- Explore the diverse experiences and contributions of Black, Asian and minority ethnic peoples in Wales, past and present
- Work alongside Creative Practitioners in a learning environment to enhance the quality of teaching and learning
- Support schools in preparation for Curriculum for Wales 2022
Background
Cynefin: Black, Asian and minority ethnic Wales draws upon the strengths of the Lead Creative Schools Scheme that has helped schools explore new ideas and approaches to teaching and learning over the last 5 years.
At the heart of the scheme is co-construction, co-delivery, pupil voice and pupil decision making. It is an enquiry-based approach that uses arts interventions and creative pedagogy to explore themes, issues, and challenges across all areas of learning.

Applications will open shortly after February Half Term.
The scheme is open to all local authority maintained and voluntary-aided primary and secondary schools, including special schools and specialist teaching facilities. Schools who have previously received a Lead Creative Schools grant are welcome to apply.
Schools who are currently in receipt of grant funding from the Arts Council of Wales are ineligible to apply.
